Monastery NS also hosted their 11th annual Christmas Concert in their school gym. The night time performances were wonderfully atmospheric as children and parents walked through the school at night through a wonderful winter wonderland. The pupils performed to packed audiences of parents, grandparents and children. Two hundred and fifty-five pupils appeared on stage throughout the Concert and 700 parents, grandparents and friends of Monastery NS attended! Principal Mr McGee thanked the Parents Association for their contributions to our Christmas Concerts over the years.

The first act of the concert opened with Monastery NS School Choir’s lively singing entitled Making your own kind of Music. Our Choir also visited our senior citizens at Moorehall and at Ardee Day Care Centre in December. They will also be appearing at the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland’s Peace Proms in Belfast in the SSE Arena on Sunday March 1st. Tickets are now on sale at

The Choir was followed by the stars of the show, Ms Corr’s Junior Infants who performed
The Gruffalo. Mrs Sloan's and Ms Maguire's Senior Infants then gave us wonderful rendition of some Christmas Melodies. .

The second act saw first to sixth classes performing a beautiful Nativity Musical The Amazing Advent Calendar. When Nicholas is handed a mysterious Advent calendar, he never expects it to take him 2000 years back in time. Stranger still, he finds himself in Bethlehem, about to witness the most famous moment in all of history. But a boy in pyjamas and slippers is always going to rouse curiosity. Before long, Nicholas is confronted by some distrustful Roman soldiers, believing him to be an imposter. He evades them for long enough to observe the shepherds meeting the angels, and even glimpses Mary and Joseph in the stable before he is evicted from Bethlehem.

Under the night sky, Nicholas worries how he will get back to his family, not to mention to his own century. Fortunately, he bumps into three wise men who are happy to lend a hand.
Audiences joined Nicholas in a Christmas story like no other, with the nativity story at its very heart.

Our pupils performed eight brilliant, original songs, acted out a compelling script that provided opportunities for all of our pupils of all ages to make ‘The Amazing Advent Calendar’ the perfect primary school Christmas production.

The lighting with its many special effects was operated capably by former pupil Nathan Leavy, sound and music by Kevin Keane and backstage was slickly managed by Mrs Coleman and 6th class boys. Principal Mr Jim McGee thanked artistic director Mrs Valerie Browne for organising the senior show. He also thanked all the Monastery NS staff who constructed the stage, decorated the school, sold the tickets and prepared our pupils. And finally he thanked his whole staff and pupils for their creativity and tremendous work that adds to the long standing tradition of theatre and music at Monastery NS, Ardee.
