Saint Brigid's Day 2011

On February 1st, Saint Brigid's Day, Master McCreanor's sixth class made some Saint Brigid's Day Crosses. See the slideshow of their work on the right.

Who Was Saint Brigid?

St Brigid was born in north county Louth in a place named "Faughart" set upon a small hill over looking Dundalk Bay. She was born about the year 454 A.D.

Within a very few years of her death she was venerated as patron of Faughart and its neighbourhood. It would seem that the district was the first in the Country of which she became chosen patron, and it was from this period the place was called "Faughart of St. Brigid".

Dubhthach her father commanded the fort on the top of the hill which controlled the gap of the North at the northerly end of Faughart Parish.

Pilgrims still attend St Brigid's Shrine at Faughart and many people with sickness and ailments have been healed by the Holy water found there.
