Monastery NS also hosted their 10th annual Christmas Concert in their school gym. The night time performances were wonderfully atmospheric as children and parents walked through the school at night through a wonderful winter wonderland. The pupils performed to packed audiences of parents, grandparents and children. Two hundred and sixty-eight pupils appeared on stage throughout the Concert and 700 parents, grandparents and friends of Monastery NS attended! Principal Mr McGee thanked the Parents Association for sponsoring our new sound mixing desk and speaker system. He said that over the years their contributions have made our Christmas Concerts possible.

The first act of the concert opened with Monastery NS School Choir’s lively singing of The Greatest Showman. Our Choir also visited our senior citizens at Moorehall and at Ardee Day Care Centre on December 10. They will also be appearing at the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland’s Peace Proms in Belfast in the SSE Arena on February 24 2019. Tickets are now on sale at

The Choir was followed by the stars of the show, Ms Corr’s and Ms McKeown’s Junior Infants who performed
Christmas Snowmen. Ms McCreanor’s and Ms McCabe’s Senior Infants also stole the show because they wanted a Hippopotamus for Christmas.

The second act saw first to sixth classes performing Countdown to Christmas. The scene in the Moss family is all too familiar in the busy run-up to Christmas. Each of them is counting down the days left. Mum is frantically trying to get her head around all the preparations on her list. With no prospect of any help from the family, she wonders where to start. Then a surprise visit from her Fairy Clock-Father turns the run-up to Christmas into an unexpected, funfilled time, with many a treat on the way. With the aid of ‘Tick’ and ‘Tock’, and a special ‘Christmas Letters Advent Calendar’, Mum can sit back and relax as the Fairy Clock-Father addresses each of the things on her ‘to do’ list. As we tackle Christmas shopping, decorations, dinner etc, we discover that God’s preparations for the first Christmas were very different. The race against time is won with style and a good deal of entertainment.

The lighting with its many special effects was operated capably by former pupil Nathan Leavy, sound and music by Kevin Keane and backstage was slickly managed by Mr McCreanor and 5 and 6 class boys. Principal Mr Jim McGee thanked musical directors Mrs Valerie Browne and Mr Roddy McCoy for organising the senior show. He also thanked all the Monastery NS staff who constructed the stage, decorated the school, sold the tickets and prepared our pupils. And finally he thanked his whole staff and pupils for their creativity and tremendous work that adds to the long standing tradition of theatre and music at Monastery NS, Ardee.
