Information for Parents of New Junior Infants

Dear Junior Infant Parents / Guardians,

I am writing to you to keep you informed about your son’s enrolment in our school in Junior Infants this coming August 2020. At this time of year we would normally have hosted our Infant Information Evening and Infant Open Day but as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic and Government advice we have been unable to do so.

However I hope that this information will provide some reassurance to you and some great news for your son. In the meantime here is some key information for you.

New Junior Infant Information - check out our Infant Information Brochure here.

Class Allocation - your son will be in one of two small Junior Infant classes with no more than 16 pupils. A great start to school in probably the smallest Junior Infant classes in Ireland!

Teacher - we will send you full information of your son's class teacher next week. A second team teacher will also work in your son's class in literacy and numeracy each day during the school year.

School Calendar 2020-2021 - check out our provisional School Calendar (subject to Dept. of Education advice) in the Parents' section of our website or click here. School is due to open on Thursday August 27th 2020.

Literacy and Numeracy - we have exceptionally high standards of literacy and numeracy in our school. Team teaching, targetted school improvement plans, a dedicated staff and a great start in small infant classes all make this possible.

Class Booklist - this will also be issued in the next week and posted on our website in the parents' section.

School Uniform - click here for details. All local shops and retailers in Dundalk sell our uniform.

Online Payments - we will be offering this important service to parents during the next few weeks. A book rental fee and school charges will have to be paid before school opens for the new school year. We will need your email address to provide this service to you. If you haven't done so already please forward your email to officeardeemns@gmail.com
More information will follow.

Virtual Learning Environment - your son will be enrolled in our new virtual learning environment MNS Seesaw. This will be a valuable addition to your son's learning and create a vital link between school and home into the future.

iPads - we have 16 new iPads that will be used in the teaching of literacy and numeracy and in station teaching in your son's classroom. See iPads in action here.

Virtual Tour - feel free to take a virtual inside or outside tour of our school from the front page of our website.

School Policies are an important part of school life for all of our school community. They are available in the About Us section of our website.

An
Information Evening for parents and guardians will take place when safe to do so in the new school year.

First Day at School - we are awaiting guidelines from the Department of Education and Skills regarding our return to school. And we will let you know as soon as possible the arrangments for coming to school with your son for his first day in August.

Some first day advice - When you arrive at the classroom, be as casual as you can. Your son will meet the teacher and will be shown his chair. Hopefully he will be absorbed in his new surroundings. Assure him you will be back to collect him, wish him goodbye and make your getaway without delay. This has always worked well and we find that most boys are too interested in playing with all the class toys to notice you leaving!

Queries - if you have any other questions please leave a voicemail on 041-6853641 or email officeardeemns@gmail.com

Yours sincerely,
Jim McGee, Principal.
