5th Class World Cup Final
On a crisp, cold morning on the 5th/ 6th class pitch at Monastery NS, tension was building as we entered the final day of our fantastic World Cup Tournament.
The long-awaited semi-final came first as Senegal faced off against favourites Argentina. With both sides down numbers due to illness and injury, replacements had to come in and do a job for their respective teams. Senegal took an early lead in the match and looked comfortable throughout the first half. Inevitably, Argentina pushed hard to find the equaliser but it wasn't to be as Senegal took advantage of this and scored their second, to seal the win.
The final game of the 5th Class World Cup Tournament certainly did not disappoint as both teams battled hard to claim victory. Uruguay stunned Senegal as they raced into an early four goal lead! Senegal looked dead and buried but battled hard and managed score four times in the final two minutes to level the match.
Golden goal was required to settle this tense affair and it looked as if all momentum was with Senegal until Uruguay managed to find the back of the net and become 5th Class World Cup champions.
Well done to our champions and to all the boys that took part!
