The Sixth Class Challenge 2012

The “Sixth Class Challenge” is a programme designed by Monastery National School to engage and motivate pupils in their final year of Primary School. We feel it has been of great benefit in developing self esteem and in promoting team spirit and positive behaviour among the pupils. Other benefits include a sense of achievement and a sense of pride in ones abilities. In all, the pupils are presented with six challenges.

Monastery school would like to think that students would have fond memories of the “Sixth Class Challenge” in years to come.

The sixth class challenge in 2012 is well under way and sixth class have completed three challenges. One of their challenges was to create a school vegetable garden and photographs of this work can be seen in our Green Schools section by clicking here.

One of our rewards was a team building exercise at the Crystal Maze (see photographs on the right). The boys were divided into two teams and competed against each other over various mental and physical challenges in the Crystal Maze.

"Climb a Mountain Challenge"

One of the most enjoyable challenges each year is the "Climb a Mountain Challenge". Sixth class boys must get everyone on their team over the mountain safely and together as a group. Teachers also talk to the boys about the geography of the area and in particular the history of the Táin Bó Cuailnge on which they are walking!
