Sixth Class Challenge 2016
The “Sixth Class Challenge” is a programme designed by Monastery National School to engage and motivate pupils in their final year of Primary School. We feel it has been of great benefit in developing self esteem and in promoting team spirit and positive behaviour among the pupils. Other benefits include a sense of achievement and a sense of pride in ones abilities. In all, the pupils are presented with 5 challenges.Monastery NS would like to think that students would have fond memories of the “Sixth Class Challenge” in years to come.
The Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP) Challenge 2016
One of the 6th Class Challenges involves participation in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme and this is our second year taking part. The JEP is an entrepreneurial education programme for primary school pupils. JEP is a not-for-profit initiative and has very strong links with the Primary School Curriculum.
During the programme pupils use their creativity to come up with business ideas, they choose one idea and then work to turn it into reality over a 10-12 week period. They've got to do the hard work - researching what customers really want, working out their costs and how much to charge for it. They figure out what they're good at and try to use those skills to play their part in a team. Along the way, they've got the support of their classmates, teachers and family. Through the programme, pupils get a clear picture of what creating a business involves.
